When looking for a sports program for your child, try your local town recreation office, YMCA, or other so your child may find a program that is a good fit and might be in programs with peers from school, or make new friends.
However, sometimes a program that is more geared towards children who have special needs might be a choice you'd like to explore.

Special Olympics - The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Westport Recreation - Inclusive Recreation
Xtreme Cheer - Our staff travels around to colleges, high schools, and middle schools to teach valuable skills used in cheerleading today. We specialize in tumbling, stunting, jumps, and dance, and we teach to boys and girls of all age groups. We also offer choreography and private lessons for both teams and individuals.

Special Spartans - Usually takes place at Citifield in NY every year on a Saturday. It's a 1/2 mile. The Special Needs Spartan Race course is designed for participants with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Read more here. Bart's Adaptive Sports in Vermont - Bart Adaptive Sports provides instruction in skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, cycling and golfing to individuals with physical and cognitive impairments.
