Who we are:  We are a group of families located in Fairfield County, Connecticut, who came together because our lives have been enriched by Down syndrome.  We have monthly get togethers with and without the kids!  We are always looking for new additions to our group. If you love someone with Down syndrome, or you would like to learn more, we'd love for you to join 21 Strong. Just leave us your contact information!  The more families who join us the stronger we get!

Through the acceptance and respect of all individuals, we allow everyone to thrive and their gifts to shine.

What Down syndrome is:  There are three types of Down syndrome:  trisomy 21, translocation and mosaic.
  • Trisomy 21 - occurs when an individual has an extra copy of the 21st chromosome.  Thus, instead of 2 chromosomes there are 3.
  • Translocation - occurs when an additional full or partial copy of chromosome 21 attaches to another chromosome.
  • Mosaic - occurs when there is a mixture of two types of cells, some containing the usual 46 chromosomes and some containing 47.  Those cells with 47 chromosomes contain an extra chromosome 21.
