Dr. Kathleen Whitbread will share her extensive research on factors that influence reading acquisition in young children with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities.

Her focus will be primarily on children in kindergarten to grade 3.

Kathleen Whitbread, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Education at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, CT, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in special education. Dr. Whitbread has been providing training and technical assistance to school districts and families for more than 25 years. Dr. Whitbread’s research interests include early literacy instruction for children with intellectual disabilities and research-based methods for designing and delivering instruction in diverse classrooms.
